Relations between HEXACO personality and ideology variables are mostly genetic in nature

Existing work indicates that socio-political attitudes (or: ideology) are associated with personality, Social Dominance Orientation and Right-Wing Authoritarianism relating most strongly to honesty-humility openness experience, the two value-related domains of HEXACO framework. Using a sample 7067 twins siblings (including 1376 complete twin pairs), we examined degree which these relations arise from common genetic environmental sources. Heritability estimates for personality ideology variables ranged .34 .58. Environmental factors shared by reared together showed negligible effects on individual differences in ideology. At phenotypic level, dimensions related experience. These associations were mostly explained (48%–93%). Genetic correlations between experience scales –.29 –.53; those –.31 –.43. None exceeded | r| = .18. results suggest model nature, there is substantial overlap heritable components
